Disabilities are complicated. Just because one looks visible sometimes, doesn't mean all is apparent. As one who crosses the line between low vision and blind, I sit in limbo. I don’t “look” blind enough, but visually I’m nearsighted. However, because I do have some amount of sight, I can sometimes walk like I don’t look blind, basically without a cane or guide. My particular eye condition also causes potential internal disabilities such as memory issues, depression, and anxiety that make functioning in such a sight based world, harder. It's forced me to work harder to achieve my goals for both sides of the coin, visually and none and it can be a strain to live in both sighted and non realms. My eye condition is considered rare so I find it more imperative to share my life and stories with the world in order to make the world more aware of just how grey lined everything is sometimes. Plus someone has to be an advocate and voice for others. That's what I feel I was meant to do. Speak up for yourself and others, and let the world know we are here to rise, to shine like stars in the night sky. Art platforms are that path for me. To reach out and express who I am in a creative, constructive, positive, but definitely informative way. My struggles become my triumphs and that is what I want to show future generations, that they can be authentic.
